Brainstorm for Chapter 7

Beat 10 (666 words) : A Different Solution. 

The hero gains new information on how to defeat the monster.  This may be delivered by someone they seek out for help, or may come through soul searching and observation.

- Team Bog (Elsie, Fran, and Debra) go to the bog.

- Fran is outside barn hiding in her scaredy bush or is the gone for now, to come back later as a white knight or something?

  - Fran is in the bush outside the barn and links up with Team BogMonster

- “Monster” is now Oracle/Madam

- Team Bog goes to the Bog, Elsie does some bog magic to call forth a bog spirit or something?

- On the way to the bog, Elsie gives the group some bog facts:

   - Morningstar was at one point a hospital?  For TB?  If people died then, it wasn’t a surprise or shocking cuz hospital.  But really, it was human sacrifice to the bog.

  - But Morningstar had to change tactics as TB became less and less so - trying to think of a group of people that wouldn’t be missed, they started helping sexual harassers???  If people disappeared, they would say, “Obviously they wanted to avoid all the problems around their sexual harassment.  So they just took off”.  Morningstar changed several times over the years to cater to people who people wouldn’t miss or at least had a reasonable excuse as to why someone would just leave without a trace.

  - When Madam came into power in the family, she decided it was time to modernize.  And Oracle became the central part of Morningstar.  She started to pay less attention to the bog and its needs, tending to it offhandedly, not dedicatedly, as Madam relied more and more on Oracle.  And fell in love with it??  Maybe Oracle decided they should step away from the bog, except for the bare minimum of sacrifices that the bog demands/needs.

  - Spiders and things are all run on bog juice.  Therefore Oracle has a vested interest in the maintenance of the bog.

- When they get to the bog, the bog is going crazy.  It is bubbling and angry or something.  Maybe Fiona’s head is there, somehow feeding the bog?

- Starve Oracle of the bog juice in some way?  Or make a bunch of bog monsters and attack all at once?

  - Elsie explains, at the bog, that they need more bog monsters so Debra and Fran have to die, or become monsters or whatever?  Maybe willing sacrifices make more powerful bogmonsters, Superbogmonsters?

  - Does Elsie give them the option to choose which of them will become the superbogmonster?  A survivor type game and the loser becomes the superbogmonster?

    - Fran/Debra turn it around and tell Elsie it should be her?  Elsie says she can’t she has to say the ancient incantation.  Or maybe there’s a book or something at the bog so anyone can follow the instructions on how to make a bogmonster.  Or ancient standing stones that have the instructions carved into them.  How the families learned to care for the bog in the first place??

    - There is a head shed by the bog where they put the cat heads that have already been dripped dry in the barn.  After they are dry, they are moved to the head shed by the bog for easy attachment and making of bogmonsters.  Maybe the book is in there?

  - Debra (clipboard lady) comes out on top?  Fran has been through enough and just wants out?  Maybe in the head shed there are “strange weapons” and Elsie tells them they have to fight to the death and they fight and one runs and the other chases and while they are away from Elsie, they hatch a quick plan to turn on Elsie and make her the sacrifice?

- Can the bog just use its will to hypnotize and make everyone do what it wants?  That would streamline things.  Send out tendrils, control their minds, something like that?  Make a lady cut her own head off?

- Name of chapter: “The Bog” ??

Beat 11 (333 words) : Seeking Out the Beast.

For the first time, the hero approaches the monster, rather than fleeing it.  They intend to enact their solution.

- release the superbogmonster, or at least show that a superbogmonster is being made and will emerge soon to go fight Oracle.

- Does a superbogmonster have its own thoughts and motivations?  Does it have more than one cat head sewn on its neck/shoulders/whole body?? Voltron style?

- team Oracle, what are they doing?  Sitting around feeling good about themselves?  Luanne (clipboard lady) and Esther outside Madam’s bedroom door, where Madam and the spider monster have been locked inside for like half an hour??? Which would show that the spider monster is capable of leaving the barn??
